King Kong Presentation

This is an example of free advertising, I used the very popular social networking site Twitter to advertise our swede at no expense. https://twitter.com/MMitchelluk
Twitter is a new and up and coming method of advertising that more and more film companys are using because its one of the cheapests methods and because there is no extent to how Twitter can promote a film, it is world wide and things such as hash tags may really help to give films a 'buzz' online.

Production, Distribution/Marketing, Exhibition

AS MEDIA STUDIES-Film industry lesson 1: Homework

Production

Stages in producing a film:

 ·         Stage 1 –Development; planning scripting, storyboarding etc.
For example: The script for ‘The Hangover’ was written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and supervised by Kerry Lyn Mckissick.

·         Stage 2-Pre-production; Budgets, cast & crew.
For example: In the ‘Hangover’ there were many actors who had roles in this film, some of those were, Bradley cooper as Phil Wenneck, a teacher. Ed Helms as Dr.Stu Price, a dentist. Zach Galifanakis as Alan Garner etc.

During pre-production, ‘The Hangover’ had a $35 million budget for the 15 Days photography which was taken place in Nevada.

·         Stage 3-Production; Shooting of the film/ Recording.
For example: The shooting of ‘The Hangover’ took place in Nevada, Las Vegas, USA.

It took 15 days to film it and it is 100 mins long.

Distribution/Marketing

A film gets distributed, when the film is completely finished and edited. It gets sent to a company for example: ‘The Hangover’ got distributed by Warner Bros. Then the buyers negotiate and make an agreement that suites both parties e.g. the company and the makers of the film. The film then gets released by following ways:
-Theatre
-Posters
-Trailers
-Reviews
-Social media such as Facebook, twitter, MySpace etc.
-Radio interviews
Etc.

The film gets its publicity when more and more people watch it, and it gets passed around. The thing that catches the audience’s attention, are the following:
-Entertaining throughout
-Not too expensive
-Good/Known Actors
-Not too long
-Unique
-Good quality
-Based at most common audiences

Exhibition

-Advertisements e.g.motorways,buses/underground, internet, youtube, food products such as coca cola, biscuits etc.
-Release it out to the theatre/cinema
-Dvd/video
-Word of Mouth

King Kong Mock Site

I based the mock King Kong site on 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'  official site, I did this because both films had been based on a novel before being made into a filma.
The links at the top of the page lead to various places. The 'Videos' hyperlink would lead to videos of clips, trailers, teasers, radio interviews and TV interviews.  The 'Story' link would have a vague blurb on what the film and book is about.
The 'Gallery' hyperlink would lead to the King Kong gallery filled with images of pre-production, production and pro-production so the consumers could see how the film was made and clicking on the 'Read the Book' would link to to extracts from the novels to draw in the consumers to buy it.

I added the social networking site logo images to the page so the consumers would be able to click on the links to connect them to the King Kong swede YouTube, Twitter, GetGlue, Pinterest, Tumblr and Google+ pages and added the the images of bookstore logos which would link to the sites to but 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' novel

TV Interview Plan

Presenter: Why did you decide to take the role of King Kong in this film?
Michael: *Improvisation*
Presenter: Tell us a bit about the film?
Michael: *Improvisation*
Presenter: What do you think of the actors working along side with you?
Michael: *Improvisation*
Presenter: Any scenes you specifically liked?
Michael: *Improvisation*
Presenter: Thank you Michael, so here's a clip of the trailer! *plays clip*

Interview with Michael

This interview would be shown on major TV channel such as Sky, Channel 4, ITV, Cartoon Network and so on to widen our audience further, this would also help us promote our swede to different audience segmentations as certain age groups, sex and racial groups watch different channels and by screening the interview on these channels we would gain a wide audience. This would provide the audience with an insight of the making of our swede

King Kong Swede

We uploaded our swede onto YouTube to widen our audience as most people use social networking such as YouTube,Facebook etc. This will widen the publicity of the music because people will share, like and comment the video if they like it to their friends.

Editing Process

The editing process of our King Kong swede, we decided to make it a black and while film to make it more like the orginal King King film but instead of having sound, we made it a silent film.
We added one of the songs from the original soundtrack of King Kong into our swede so the music would add more effect to the events happening in the swede.

Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Elm Street Swede

I loved this swede because this musical version of Sweeney Todd is one of my all tive favourite films because it's a hybrid film and because it's so Ironic. I think the actors re-enacted the scene well, the scenes were silmilar to the actual film and they added their own twists to it by adding different sounds rather than the songs from the original soundtrack.

Production,Distribution and Exhibition

Post Production
includes location scouting and are contracted for the shoot, identifying props and coustumes, casting is completed, crews are hired, a schedule is prepared and the script is divided into scenes by location and  the casting requirements to make shooting the scenes as money-efficient as possible.
Production
Is the actual shooting of the scenes for the film and the recording of them.
Post Production
Involve making the final edit of a film that will be released to the general public. This includes; fixing mistakes not corrected during the actual filming, looping where actors re-record dialogue to improve the original delivery, add in non-diegetic sounds bring in foley artists to create non- diegetic sounds.

Marketing/Distribution
Advertise film though posters, make a trailer, get as many reviews written, get as many editorials written, get the stars to star at shows. radio interview, social media such as; Facebook pages and Twitter, billboards, bus adverts, word of moth official website made, may include publicity tours, promotional posters and DVDs, Blue Rays and soundtrack albums.

Exhibition
(Has to be well distributed to be shown at cinemas.)
Consumption
shown in Cinemas
Movie Rental
Online.
If the film is made by conglomerates then a film premire is usually holded to grasp the interest of the consumers as the more known celebrity actors star in the film, the more likely people will want to watch the film.
Merchandise for the film being made to promote it futher.

Regulation

The Hobbit Swede

The reason I like this sweded version of the Hobbit is because I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan and seeing kids play the part of more adult roles is just adorable. Plus it looks really well done.

~ Ali Jarjis

Making a Film

So you’ve recently seen some terrible movie and thought to yourself I could make a better movie than that. Well, it’s nice to see you put your money where your mouth is but do you even know how to make a film, the steps involved in making a film or where to even begin? No, I thought not, Spielberg, but don’t worry because I’m here to help and I’ll be here every step of the way all for the low, low price of 30% of how much your movie makes at the box office…but we can’t talk business later, for now let’s just try to create this film of yours.

Production:
We’re going to start off with production since it is the most important part to making any film and because it is so important it is usually the longest part to making a film. What with production being the largest phase we’ll split it up into 3 simple stages: development, pre-production and production, all of which I will go into detail as we progress.

Development is our first step. This is where the idea for the film is formed and a script is written, the more time invested at this stage the easier the rest of will production will be. All movies require money to be created, so unless you plan on paying for it with your own money, you’re probably going to need a studio to invest into your film. Once they’ve read your script and hopefully enjoyed it you’ll get the financial backing you need. Congratulations, you’ve just passed the development stage; most movies never even get this far and usually die because of a lack of funding.

Okay, so now we’re on the pre-production stage, this is where we’ll be doing all the planning and spending most of the budget. Now we can‘t just plan and spend on our own, we’re going to need to hire a crew; the type of crew you have differs depending on the movie, some movies have a small crew with people taking multiple roles in the project while others have larger army-like crews. The director, assistant director, art director, choreographer, cinematographer, music composer, music director are just a few of the people you’ll need to hire. With your crew you’ll be spending a large amount of time in pre-production planning out every scene, every shot and every logistical detail. Again, the more time invested at this stage the easier the rest of production will be.

Next is the fun part: the production stage where the film is shot and edited. There really isn’t much to say about this part…so I’m just going to awkwardly move along…

Distribution:

Your film is probably now complete. You’ve filmed, edited and watched it multiple times, now unless you went through all this to show the movie only to your mother you’re probably going to want it played at the cinema so people can “admire” your work. How would I go about doing this, you say? Well, guess who’s a professional film director? Not me, but I know a guy who knows a guy, etc. Anyway to get your film on the big screen you’re going to need distributors, they’ll make copies of your film, distribute it to theatres and take a chunk of your profit because they too have kids to feed. You can also distribute your film online via streaming services such as Netflix, ITunes, LoveFilm or go straight to video but be warned as it will make it quite difficult for your film to reach consumers.

Marketing:
Your film “could” be the greatest film of all time and cure every single disease known to man but without any marketing no one will see it causing it to do terribly at the box office. So, hoping you haven’t completely wasted your budget on pretty actors and unnecessary CGI you’re going to have to spend whatever you have left on marketing.

The first and most important part of marketing is knowing your audience; if you fail at this step the other steps are just useless. It is crucial that you understand who your target audience is and then look at the world from their point of view. There are plenty of ways to advertise a film but which would reach your target audience best?
Hancock Advertising

- Social Media Sites
- Billboards
- Buses
- Television
- Cinemas

Most studios advertise their film similarly so try to think outside of the box: stage publicity stunts, hold a premiere or work with sponsors. Your task is to hook your audience anyway you can and have them watch your film so you can make money and finally buy that Jacuzzi you’ve always wanted.
